How to add pictures to your story

Print these instructions for easy reference. Here’s how to print any page:

o Put your mouse at the start of the area you want to copy. Left click and highlight the text by dragging to where you want to stop. Release.

o Right click and select Copy.

o Open a blank page in your word processing package.

o Right click again and select Paste.

o Print your page.

You can't ruin this site by making mistakes. Everything is changeable in our wiki. Have a go at adding a photo (any photo - even repeating one that's already on your page for practise) by doing the following.

  1. Click on the page you want to edit on the sidebar (eg Beadell)
  2. Click Edit page
  3. Click where you want your image placed in the existing text
  4. (If you haven't yet put your photo in the add files section you'll need to do that first by clicking the Browse button to navigate to your photo. Meantime, let's practise by adding one of the .jpg photos I've already added.)
  5. Click on the name of the photo you want and check the preview
  6. Click OK
  7. Save your page by clicking Save bottom left
  8. Check out your work by opening the appropriate link from the Sidebar

Now remove the image. Here's how

  1. Click Edit page
  2. Place your cursor immediately to the right of your inserted picture
  3. Press backspace and it's gone

Find a suitable picture for your story. Here's how

  1. Open your browser, press F6 to highlight the address at the top and type in http ://www.google.com.au/ to go to Google
  2. Click Images above the search box
  3. Type in the name of the image you are searching for eg Beadell
  4. Double click the image
  5. At the top of the screen click See full-size image
  6. Right click and Save image as (your choice of name but put .jpg at end eg mychoice.jpg)
  7. Save it where you can find it again by clicking the Save in: drop down box at the top eg choose Desktop
  8. Navigate to the Desktop (or wherever) and right click on your saved image
  9. Click Properties to find how large the picture is. IMPORTANT if your image is much greater than 15 or 20 kb please don't add it to the wiki. We have limited free space and it will quickly be used up by large files. Use suitable photo editing software to reduce the image size (Search Google for help)
  10. Add your image to the wiki resources by using the browse feature in the Edit screen
